Zach Pallin is a Senior DevOps Engineer at Balbix. Zach plays an important role in the development and delivery of valuable new features. Learn more about him in the video above and Q&A below!
What do you do?
I am mostly involved these days in our CI/CD pipeline and observability.
Where are you from?
I am actually from the bay area. I grew up in San Mateo County and I’ve been living in San Jose ever since. So yes, I do say “hella” and I love eating burritos.
What led you into this field of work?
When I was in middle school, I did a lot of software and built a lot of video games with my friends. After college, me and some of my friends tried to start a web business and I got a lot of hands-on product development experience.
Of course, the project failed, but I reignited a passion for software development. Next thing I knew I was studying every night of the week until several months later I was able to earn myself an IT support job at a local ISP.
What makes you excited to come into work every morning?
Coffee… but lots of other things. I’d say it’s the mission. I’m very attached to the mission here.
As a DevOps Engineer I very much understand why people want to use Balbix. Being connected to the mission like that and really understanding why it’s so important is what makes me want to be here, be part of this, and contribute as much as I can.
What is your favorite part about working at Balbix?
The people. The people here are absolutely wonderful. I can come into work everyday and feel like myself and get along nicely and easy with everyone.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I play a lot of music. I play guitar, drums, bass… But I guess it’s not that hidden of a talent, otherwise I wouldn’t have my hair this long.
